bleedthedream's Journals on Buzznet

Los Angeles BLEED THE DREAM have only been together for four years and have already amassed a resume and cultish following that dwarfs bands twice their age. The bands original line-up released their Warcon Records debut Built By Blood in 2005, after already releasing two earlier EPs on their self-run Maphia Records. They have gained fans everywhere from Tennessee to Tokyo as the breakout act on festivals like the Vans Warped Tour and RockStar Taste Of Chaos Tour, playing alongside platinum-selling acts like My Chemical Romance, The Used and Hawthorne Heights.

KILLER INSIDE is the bands follow-up full length for Warcon Records. Of the album, guitarist Dave Aguilera simply states: Our goal for this record was to make a disc that we would enjoy and hopefully other people would enjoy too. I hope we can continue to have fans who are 50 years old and like watching football and 15-year-old kids who love going to the mall, referring to the bands remarkably diverse fan base. Its such a trip.

While it would have been easy for BLEED THE DREAM guitarist Aguilera, bassist Keith Thompson, and the recent additions of drummer Tom Breyfogle and vocalist Mark Holmesto follow up their debut with a collection of screamo anthems, the group felt the need to evolve with their latest disc. Produced by acclaimed producer Garth 'GGGarth' Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Rise Against, Atreyu), Ben Kaplan and BLEED THE DREAM, the album is like nothing fans have heard from the band before.

The current line-up helped BLEED THE DREAM create music that better represents what the band has become today. As far as our progression goes, were all music lovers and we love everything from country to metal to pop to hardcore, Aguilera explains. We really pushed our ability as songwriters and musicians on this new record. A lot of the songs are both more interesting to listen to and more difficult to play than anything on our first disc, he adds. We just wanted to keep it fun and interesting.

The result is an album that is equally aggressive and melodic, relying more on moods and layered arrangements than throat-shredding screams to convey the bands vision. The opener 'Voices' is both rocking and intriguingly atmospheric; the anthemic 'Drowning Is Painless' has a chorus hook so instantly memorable that you will be humming it for weeks; and the driving 'Considering, This Time It Was Me' showcases Holmes impressive vocal range. While all of these songs sound different, they flow together seamlessly to create a work that feels like a complete work rather than simply a collection of songs.

Looking back on the past few tumultuous years surrounding the creation of KILLER INSIDE, the darkly beautiful and emotive tracks on the album are poignant.

As I look back on that day I left my hometown of Baltimore Md (April 25th 2002), leaving my close cirlce of friends and family to uncharted waters yet I knew I was headed for something special. I arrived in LA May 1st and met my new band mate Dave Aguilera..he welcomed me with open arms and even shared his studio apartment with a total stranger...little did he know that I was a total freak..haha..but the point is I could have been anyone. he must have known...or he is just a total moron (you decide.) BUT that being said..that was the moment that made all things possible. SO (I cant believe I'm gonna say this but) THANK YOU DAVE...all of our fans should know that it was our vision from the start and Im grateful for everytihng you have done for me and my family. Im not gonna go through the total history of bTd nor boar you with personal hooopla. These are just some things that I need to write no matter the amount of viewers. Starting as a 3 piece (Me,Dave and Scott)...it was mearly a side project but as the music grew I saw the missing link. Traveling back home at the end of 2002 I persued my old neightborhood buddy Brandon Thomas. I made the guys (dave and scott) "trust me". I knew the kid had fire and passion that he hasn't let out yet. There our first Ep "awake" was born. With honest lyrics and a mixture of music..our chemestry was aparent. I'm so glad that I persued Brandon..he gave the songs a fire that I was truley looking for..and not to mention how our voices blended so well together. Soon after that our Brother Scott was struck with and aweful illness that I didnt know anything about. I remember the morning Brandon told me..I was sitting in the van..I had just awakened. As the words rolled of his lips my heart to fell to the floor. Scott (like Dave) also took me in..letting me live there at his apt for long periods of time. There we bonded and became friends of friends. He was "the King" of his circle and the "lancealot" of this band..its best knight. I will always remember him just as that. A Knight in Shining Armor. During the time Scott was batteling with cancer..we were on the road..Dave had this riff he was playing one day...so naturally (as it always was with us) I sat down picked up my acoustic and played the melody to what became our deepest and most popular and passionate song (our Staiway to Heaven if you will..haha) . "Broken Wings". With the lyrics written intirely by Brandon and the layers of sound supplied by Dave and I..it has been the closer of our set (with Brandon) through out. The song was played at Scotts funeral. As time moved on and we released "Built by Blood"..the band was bigger than ever..doing headline shows arcoss the world. It was the height of bTd...bitter sweet with our brother passed on and us blowing up. I do remember him making me swear that we do not stop..he said "the dream must go on" and as the tears fall down my face right now..that moment will live with me forever as I know it. After Built by Blood tentions grew and attitudes and feelings got more intense. We had finally aquired a drummer that was the right fit (Tom Breyfogle). Dave and I felt so blessed to have found him but soon after the band was never the same being that only 2 original members (Dave and myself) remaind as it had begun. Mark Holmes replaced our former lead man and there started a completely new band. We all agree that we should have changed the name..unfortunatley there were contracts involved and lots of investements. Looking back now it really doenst matter..the important thing is ..whether a new fan or a die hard old fan..the music touched you in a very special way as did it did me. So here is where the water runs dry and it time to say goodbye. Thanks to all of you guys. I got to live out my dreams that I thought of when I was 6 years old..I have a special place in my heart for each and everyone of you. Light a candle and remember this day that we put Bleed the Dream to bed. I love you guys very much and always will. kEith
